                  The Best of Them

“It’s freezing out here! Why did we have to go Christmas shopping now?”

“Shut it, Potter. It’s your stubbornness that got us into this mess. I told you to get your shopping done early, but did you listen? No, you didn’t. So here we are.”

“Not all of us are blessed with Second Sight, Draco.”

“It has nothing to do with being clairvoyant, Scarhead. It’s called common sense. If you wait until late in December to do your Christmas shopping, you will be cold. Therefore, it only makes sense to get it done sooner.”

“Why couldn’t I have just shopped online? Then I wouldn’t be freezing my jingle bells off in the snow.”

“Have you never heard of a warming charm, for Merlin’s sake?”

“I can never get those right. I don’t know why. How do you always do them so easily?”

“I didn’t always do them easily. I remember being trapped in the dungeons at Malfoy Manor after I refused to identify you. I’d never been so cold or so scared in all my life. I didn’t think I’d survive, but I had no choice.”

“What did you do?”

“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me lay an invincible summer.”

“What does that mean?”

“Well, whenever I got too scared or too cold, I thought of you, out there trying to defeat the Dark Lord.  It gave me strength.  I learned the spells I needed to survive, even if I wasn’t exactly comfortable. That included wandless warming charms.”

“Well, now I feel about two inches tall. I’m sorry for complaining about the cold. I was just hoping you’d warm me up.”

“All you had to do was ask. I’d be glad to perform the charm.”

“That’s not what I meant. I was hoping we could go home and climb in our bed. “

“You are a naughty boy, aren’t you?”

“Well, what do you expect? I learned from the best of them.  You know you love it, so don’t try to deny it.”

“Any more of your cheek and you’ll get a spanking for Christmas instead of a present.”

“Will you wear the Santa hat?”

“I created a monster.”
