Hen Party

“Hermione, are you awake?”  Ginny whispered.

“I am, but I wasn’t sure if you were. I made you some tea.” She offered the steaming cup with a wobbly smile, biting her lip nervously.

“Do you want to talk about what happened last night?”

“You mean the fact that we kissed at my hen party, even though I’m supposed to marry Ron in two days?”

“Yes, that. Trust you to get straight to the heart of things,” Ginny said fondly.

“It wasn’t supposed to happen. I love Ron. I don’t want to hurt him.”

“I don’t want to hurt him either. He is my brother, even if he does act like a prat at times. But I also liked kissing you. And I know you liked kissing me. Don’t even try denying that.”

“I wasn’t going to. For Merlin’s sake, Ginny, that kiss left my knickers damp. Kissing your brother has never done that in all the time we’ve been together. But I haven’t been so humiliated since I was hit with Malfoy’s stray Densaugeo spell in fourth year. I’ve never—let go that way. It felt good, but it was wrong, and it can’t happen again.”

“You’re saying you could go through the rest of your life never feeling that again, and you’d be fine with it? I don’t think so. You’re too passionate for that.”

“Ginny, I can’t—everything would fall apart. Life as I know it would be over. I never even knew it was possible to feel that way, and then one kiss turned my world upside down.”

“You were beautiful when you came apart in my arms last night. I won’t say I’m sorry for what happened, because that would be lying. Last night was amazing. Seeing you so uninhibited, it was like I’d lost the world and gained the universe. But if you want to pretend that never happened—"

“That isn’t what I want. But I don’t want to hurt your brother. How am I supposed to tell him I got off from kissing his baby sister?”

“We have to tell him the truth, but maybe not so bluntly, yeah?”

“Oh, Merlin. What on earth will your mum say?”
