Anything for Peace and Quiet

Ron Weasley looked over at his best friend.  Harry was wearing a wistful, somewhat dopey look on his face. Following his friend’s line of sight, he caught the white-blond hair of Draco Malfoy.

“Mate, why don’t you just go ask the ferret out, for Merlin’s sake? You wank so much it’s keeping me up at night,” Ron grumbled.

“Circe’s sagging tits, Ron! Would you keep your voice down?!” Harry yelped, “He’s right there. And I’m not that loud, am I?”

“You are. Harry, I love you like a brother, but if you don’t ask Malfoy out, I’ll go over and tell him what you scream out in your sleep at night,” Ron threatened.

“Ron! Y-You wouldn’t! Would you?” Harry had an edge of near-panic in his voice.

“Yes I would,” Ron said stubbornly, “Go ask him.”

“But-what if he doesn’t want to?” Harry wondered.

“Well then at least you’ll know, right? Go for it, Harry. I want to see you happy,” Ron told him.

“I-I can’t Ron, really. He’d never look at me,” Harry despaired.

“Harry! You are the hero of the magical world. You defeated Voldemort. You saved his life. You are a Gryffindor! Now go ask him out before I’m forced to embarrass you.”

Ron’s expression was stubborn. Harry knew that if he didn’t do as his friend said, Ron would do as he’d promised.

“Okay, then. But if he says no, this is on your head, Ron,” Harry warned.

“Just go and get your man before I do it for you,” Ron ordered, lightly clapping him on the shoulder, before pushing him in Malfoy’s direction.

Taking a deep breath to bolster his courage, Harry squared his shoulders and strode across the library, making his way to where Malfoy was studying.

Ron averted his gaze, wanting to give his friend some privacy.

It wasn’t long after that when he felt a touch on his shoulder, looking up into familiar grey eyes.

“Weasley, I owe you one. Harry told me it was you who told him to ask me out. Thank you,” Draco stated solemnly.

Ron’s face wore a slightly gobsmacked expression before it turned calculating.

“Just don’t forget the silencing charms if you and Harry get up to anything, all right?” Ron begged.

“Fair enough, Weasley. You’re a good friend to him, you know. I know you don’t like me.”

“Just don’t hurt him, and I’ll never say another word against you, Malfoy,” Ron answered.

“I’ll hold you to that,” Malfoy said, “I’d best get back to Harry.”

Ron looked over to where his friend was sitting, seeing an expression of contentment on his face for the first time in weeks. He was glad that he’d been able to give his friend the push he needed.

“Oh, and Malfoy? Silencing charms, please? Harry’s a screamer. I would like to get some sleep this year.”
