Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them!
1.
Harry Potter series-I feel I would be remiss if I did not put these on my list. These, probably moreso than any other fiction books, have truly impacted my life in ways that I didn't expect. And the funny thing is, I almost didn't read them because there was so much hype about them, and generally, hype produces disappointment when it goes unfulfilled. My sister talked me into getting them, and I've never looked back since. I take some teasing for my Harry Potter obsessions, but considering all the good it's brought into my life, I can deal with that.
2.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn-We had to read this one for sixth-grade English classes. I have always been grateful that our teacher let us keep the book. I felt a certain sense of kinship with Francie, especially when it came to her relationship with her father.
3.
Little Women-This was one of my most favorite books ever growing up. I related to Jo in a lot of ways.
4.
The Diary of Anne Frank- I can't say that I loved this book, especially knowing what happened to Anne and the people in hiding with her, but it is one that I've read numerous times. I have both the definitive and the original publications. When I first read it, it pulled me into her world, and it is one that has stayed in my mind and heart ever since.
5.
The Lovely Bones- It is difficult to verbalize the affect this book had on me. All I can say is that it made me think about life and death in a different way. It made me question a lot of the things I'd been brought up with, and I feel a deep sense of connection to it.
6
Latter Days-This is one of my favorites, no question. I identify a lot with the character of Aaron and the struggles he goes through in the book. I also like the movie that came from this book as well, but the book is a little more detailed and goes into greater depth.
7.
The China Garden-I loved this one when I read it in high school. It's got romance, mystery, and fantasy. I always hate to put this down and come back to the real world.
8.
Tiger Eyes- Not the first Judy Blume book I read, but it's one that I love. I can still pass the time reading it and feel satisfied that the day has been well spent.
9.
A Little Princess- I have read this book so often that I nearly have it memorised. It's like comfort food for my brain.
10.
The Crucible- This was a another thing I had to read for school and loved. I was fascinated by the Salem Witch Trials and the reasons behind them. Technically a play, I know, but I felt I had to include it.
I think most of the people on my flist have done this by now, but if you haven't and you want to, consider youself tagged.
Looking back over this list, I realise that most of these books have influenced who I am as a person and how I treat people. It was really hard to narrow it to just ten, but I'd say these books have probably had the most effect on my life in one respect or another.
