hogwarts365 Prompt 279-Powerful, Grotesque, Synchronization
Notes: I hope readers enjoy this.
Summary: Harry and Draco are paired together for an Auror training project.
“Today we will be working on paired spells. Such spells are very powerful, but they require skilled teamwork and synchronization to work properly. Mister Malfoy, you and Mister Potter shall be working together today.”
“Why does it seem like everyone takes a fiendish sort of glee in putting us together?”
“Because they do. The universe apparently has a rather grotesque sense of humour. Someone out there must think I haven’t been punished enough.”
“I’m not all that bad, am I Malfoy?”
“Well, you’re no Voldemort, thank Merlin. I suppose it won’t be so terrible working with you.”
“You called him Voldemort. I like that. Most people still flinch when his name is spoken.”
“I suppose I’ve just had my bellyful of being a coward, that’s all.”
“You were never a coward, Malfoy. It isn’t being cowardly to run away from danger. That’s called self-preservation. Not everyone is meant to face things head-on like a foolish Gryffindor.”
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing from you, Potter. I’ve no idea whether to feel complimented or insulted.”
“I think I rather more insulted myself than you in that statement, Malfoy. I promise you, I meant no offence.”
“Where is this coming from?”
“We have to work together on this project. We may as well bury the hatchet, eh?”
“So long as you don’t bury it in my back, Potter.”
“Harry, please. And I won’t. I promise. Friends?”
“About bloody time, too. You do realise I offered you my hand in friendship first?”
“I wonder what things would have been like if I’d have taken it then?”
“The important thing is that you’re offering yours now.”
“I take it you intend to accept at some point in the near future, then?”
“Oh, yes, of course. It’s just that I so love seeing you squirm.”
“It’s oddly comforting to know that some things never change, Malfoy.”
“I’m just Draco, Harry. Malfoy was my father. I’m not him. Not anymore.”
“You never were, Draco.”
“That means a lot. Especially coming from you.”
“If you two boys are done flirting, would you kindly work on your assignment, please?”
“We weren’t flirting! We were righting some past wrongs.”
“If you say so, boys.”
