Summary: Harry and Draco babysit Rose.

Baby Talk

“Couldn’t Mr. and Mrs. Granger babysit?”

“No, Mr. and Mrs. Granger wanted to go see the baby, remember?”

“I can’t believe Granger had another baby so soon. Rose is only two years old. She hardly got any time to have her parents to herself.”

“Rose will be fine, Draco. It’s sweet that you’ve taken the time to think about that.”

“It’s self-preservation. There will be twice as many children to look after when we babysit.”

“You love Rosie. Don’t deny she’s adorable.”

“I’m not saying a word. Not Rose’s fault her father is a Weasley.”

“And your aunt is Bellatrix Lestrange, but would you want anyone judging you by her?”

Draco’s expression of distaste was answer enough.

“You may have a point.”

“It’s a miracle! Have I entered a parallel universe?”

“Let’s go. Rose will want her bedtime story soon.”

Harry made his way to the fireplace. His husband definitely had a soft spot for children.

Harry saw a small, red-haired blur make its way toward Draco, nearly knocking him over.

“Unca Daco, Unca Daco! Mummy gots me a new pincess book!”

“Rose Elizabeth, let the man breathe.”

“I sowwy, Unca Dway.”

“It’s okay, Rosie. Will you show me your new story?”

Rose’s eyes sparkled as she looked up at him, taking his hand and dragging him toward the sofa.

“Is pwetty. See? Shiny. She wooks wike you.”

Harry laughed heartily as Draco’s eyes widened, but smiled in understanding as she pointed to the princess’ white-gold hair.

“I see it, Rosie. You mean she has hair like mine?”

“Yes!” Rose said, nodding so emphatically that Harry was nearly afraid for her neck.

“I’ll read it to you after we brush your teeth, okay?”

“Gwanny did.”

“She’s all ready for bed, Draco. But she wouldn’t let me read her a story. She wants you to do it.”

Draco favoured Rose with a grin and ruffled her head tenderly. Mrs. Granger smiled at the pair.

Rose grabbed Draco’s hand, heading for her room.

“He’s wonderful with her, Harry. It’s a shame you can’t have any of your own.”

Harry’s expression turned wistful as Draco’s voice drifted down the corridor from Rose’s room.

“Once Upon A Time…”

“Perhaps…someday.”
