Clearing the Air
“Harry, this isn’t you.”
“You don’t know what I am anymore, Hermione.”
“I know our Harry is still in there, somewhere.”
“I am still Harry, but I’m also a vampire. I can’t change that. I can’t solve this by asking: ‘What would Albus Dumbledore do?’ I am not human any longer."
“Does being a vampire mean you have to be an arsehole to your friends? What you said was out of line, Harry, and you know it. You’ve not been yourself.”
“What the fuck does that mean?”
“You were hard, Harry. Cruel, even.”
“You had just made light of everything I am now, not to mention my relationship with my mate. Forgive me if I was less than polite in my response when you came barging into our private room while I was feeding. I was hungry, cranky, and feeling cornered. How would you expect me to behave? You showed no consideration for me or the most important person in my life. I was furious and hurt, too. I thought you of all people would’ve been the one to understand how hard this all is. And then you went to McGonagall. Why?”
“I didn’t know what else to do. I just wanted you back. You’re not the same. Ron won’t say, but he misses you. All the Weasleys do. Arthur was saying so just last week.”
“Arthur? You call Ron’s parents by their names now?”
“We’re engaged. It only seemed natural. Harry, for what it’s worth, I’m sorry about what I said. I just wasn’t thinking.”
“I’m sorry I’ve been hurtful to you, Hermione, but you have to respect my limits. Draco and I are a new-bound pair. The bond is still settling and we both get defensive at slights against our mates. Guard your tongue. Friendship with me can be dangerous. I’m not perfect little Harry Potter. I’m a Dark Creature.”
“Your hair is still the same.”
“That’s the one thing being a vampire didn’t affect in some way. Draco insists that I use hair gel to tame the mess, but it still does this.”
‘It’s good to know some things haven’t changed. Are we still friends?”
“Can you accept me as a vampire?”
