Valued
“Potter! What a coincidence! I never thought I’d see you in a place like this. Doesn’t your wife need you at home?”
“I see you haven’t read the Prophet recently, Malfoy.”
“I don’t read that rag on principle. Especially considering that I know firsthand just how biased some of their sources are.”
“If you’d been reading it, you’d know that I’m divorced. Hence why I’m here instead of with my ex-wife.”
“I never pictured you fitting into the bar scene. You look highly uncomfortable.”
“Well-spotted, Malfoy. I’d say I have a right to be uncomfortable. Stan Shunpike was trying to chat me up.”
“Wasn’t he the conductor for the Knight Bus in our third year?”
“He isn’t a bad bloke really. But, I don’t want to sleep with him.”
“Thank Merlin for that! He’s enough to give anyone nightmares.”
“I see some things never change.”
“Were you interested in him, then?”
“No! But that doesn’t mean I’ll stand for him being insulted any more than I stood for them insulting you at that farce of a trial.”
“I remember how controversial everything was when you spoke out for me. As I recall, everyone claimed I was corrupting you.”
“If Voldemort hadn’t already, I doubt you stood any chance of corrupting me. Dumbledore believed you had good in you, and so do I.”
“Goodness isn’t a highly prized virtue in the Malfoy family, Potter. Ambition and ruthless cunning have far more value.”
“You know that’s a load of bollocks. Your mother chose love in the end. You chose not to give me away at the manor. ”
“I have no money. I’m not successful, and the only thing that saved my arse from prison was the fact that you spoke on my behalf.”
“You are successful. Draco. I know you have a mail-order potions operation. And I know you brew Wolfsbane for Teddy every month, and others too. Why won’t you admit that you’re a good man? Dumbledore always said it was more important to be a man of value than a man of success. From where I sit, you’re both. You just won’t say so.”
“If I buy you a drink, will you shut up?”
