Notes: Just a random something inspired by the prompts. I’m so sorry prompt 300 is late, but I blame the weather. That being the case, I combined two sets of prompts. I hope readers enjoy. Feedback is always welcome.
Summary: Draco talks Narcissa out of throwing an engagement ball.
“Mother, why must we have a ball? You know Harry hates to dance.”
“Draco, a ball is a fundamental part of a Pureblood engagement.”
“You know blood status doesn’t matter to me anymore. Harry is not a Pureblood wizard, so I don’t see why we should have to abide by Pureblood customs.”
“Traditions are important, Draco.”
“Not as important as Harry’s happiness. I won’t have him uncomfortable at his own party.”
“You would prefer a night of unbridled revelry, I suppose?”
“I just want Harry to be happy, Mum. Balls aren’t as in fashion as they used to be. They’ve gone the way of visiting cards and silver salvers. All that matters to me is celebrating my impending marriage with the man I love. I don’t care how that happens, but I would ask that we forego the ball. Please?”
“You know I can’t refuse you anything, Draco. How do you feel about just having a small engagement dinner?”
“That sounds just lovely.”
“I’ve never seen you so happy. It warms my heart. Truly.”
“Harry has a way of bringing out the best in me. He does everything in his power to make me laugh. He says it’s his favorite sound in the world and that he won’t give up until he hears it at least once every day.”
“Harry is good for you.”
“I’m glad you think so. And grateful you were willing to listen to me about the ball. Harry was afraid I’d make him wear a dress, as though he were the belle of the ball.”
“What did you tell him?”
“I just teased him a bit. He’d look smashing in a dress.”
“Draco! Behave. You know we wouldn’t do that! I’s been eons since a Malfoy party’s been that wild.”
“I don’t think I want to know. I’m sure Harry is probably wondering where I am.”
“Are you sure I can’t persuade you into the ball? It was during our first dance that I gave up my heart to Lucius.”
“I remember giving up my heart to Harry the first moment I saw his green eyes. That was a good try.”
“I couldn’t resist. Now, go see to your fiancé.”
“Gladly.”
