Please do not pass legislation that threatens free speech, such as SOPA and PIPA. Protecting copyrights is all well and good, but not if it hampers freedom of expression, people. Theoretically, America was established as a country to give us our freedoms. Now, it just seems like the country is turning more into Big Brother. This is why many of us hate politics and politicians.
I'm not politically inclined, nor have I ever been. I don't know everything about everything in the world, especially concerning things political, but one of the main things I enjoy about my country is that I'm free to express my thoughts. It seems as though policing the content of the internet would infringe upon that freedom, not to mention, create extra work for individuals whose time would be best employed in other areas.
I am not registered to vote, so maybe I shouldn't express an opinion on this issue, but I do have an opinion, and this is a free country, so I will share that, even if I do not feel I have a right to weigh in.
Cracking down on the content of cyberspace is nearly impossible. The internet on the whole is too vast. Even if these things were to pass, it seems to me there would be major difficulties with enforcement. Who or what decides on the standard of acceptable content? What sort of penalties would there be for violations, and how often would these occur? It appears to me that too many politicians and officials waste time and energy on stupid bullshit; not to mention the amount of energy they waste on things like this when there are so much bigger issues to be resolved in this country.
Ugh. I was born and raised in America, but every day lately, I find new reasons to want to relocate myself. I love my country, but not when it comes to politics.
