The Perfect Gift
“You really won father over tonight, Harry. That was the perfect gift. He collects rare wines, you know. He loved it. I do believe he quite adores you now,” Draco concluded, looking pleased.
“I’m glad Lucius liked the wine. I had to find some way to soften him up a bit,” Harry said.
“You certainly found the way to his heart, all right,” Draco grumbled, “but I should think you’d be a bit more concerned with mine.”
“I am, Draco. That’s why I tried so hard to find the right gift for your father. I hoped he would give his blessing when I asked you to marry me,” Harry explained.
“Marry? Harry- you aren’t- we aren’t—you’ve got to be joking!” Draco spluttered.
“I’m not joking, Draco, I’m serious. Will you marry me?” Harry asked, feeling his heart start to beat triple time as Draco remained frozen in a state of shock.
“I—yes! Yes, Harry! A million times, yes! I’m so happy!”
“Draco, are you crying?” Harry inquired.
“Of course not, you dolt! That’s the wind stinging my eyes. It’s freezing out here,” Draco lied.
Harry gently kissed a tear from the corner of Draco’s eyes before placing the softest of kisses against his mouth.
“The wind is rather cold out here, isn’t it? Let’s get you inside and I’ll make you some hot cocoa, okay?” Harry promised.
“Don’t forget the tiny marshmallows, Harry,” Draco demanded.
“Of course not, love,” Harry smiled, “Whatever you want.”
”Harry? Did you really ask my father’s permission to marry me?” Draco wondered.
“I did. Lucius really isn’t so bad. He said as long as I make you happy, I have his blessings He did warn me I’d need to fear for my entrails if I hurt you, but I’d expect a father to react that way when his only child gets married,” Harry answered.
“With father, that’s as good as a welcome into the clan. He really must like you.”
“I reminded him that we have something in common: We both love you. He warmed right up to me after that.”
“Harry? Thank you for making this the happiest night of my life. Having your love forever is the most perfect gift of all.”
