A Chip Off the Old Block

“Thank you so much for agreeing to look after Teddy, Harry. I love the dear boy to pieces, but I’m getting on up in age. I know nothing of the Chudley Cannons or Quidditch. So as far as he’s concerned, I’m useless,” Andromeda concluded with a laugh.

“I’m sure he doesn’t feel that way, “Harry answered, “He’d be quite lost without you.”

“Well, in any case, thank you for volunteering to take him to the Quidditch game. He’s been talking about nothing else for a fortnight. He’s really looking forward to it.”

“It’s not a problem at all. He’s a good boy. I’m glad to spend time with him.  And Draco will be with us as well. He got us the tickets.”

“Harry!” Andromeda admonished, “Why did you not tell me you had a date? I can take Teddy home and send him another day if you and Draco would rather be alone.”

“You’ll do no such thing, ‘Dromeda,”Harry declared. “This is to be a fun outing for the three of us. Draco and I have both been looking forward to the time with Teddy as much as he has.  So, no arguing, okay?”

Reassured, Andromeda was preparing to depart just as Harry’s fireplace chimed a warning.

“Draco Malfoy, present and accounted for. Let’s go, Harry. We don’t want to miss the pre-match displays. Cromwell Findlay’s going to be doing some stunt flying. Teddy won’t want to miss that,” Draco stated.

“Excuse me, O Impatient One. I was saying goodbye to your aunt,” Harry teased.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Aunt Andromeda. Please excuse my rudeness. In all the excitement, I didn’t see you there.”

“That’s quite all right, Draco. You boys go and have fun at the match. Make sure Teddy comes back to me in one piece, please?” Andromeda implored.

“Gran, that was one time. And it wasn’t Harry and Draco’s fault. I got scared of the movie and accidentally Apparated onto your lap,” Teddy pouted.

“And nearly gave me a heart attack in the process, young man. Be safe today, please?” she asked, trying to look stern.

“I’ll be watching, Gran, not playing. We’ll be fine,” Teddy promised.

With a last ruffling of the ten-year-old’s head and a kiss to his cheek, Andromeda took her leave.

Several hours later, looking as if they’d been caught in a whirlwind, Harry and Draco Apparated into Grimmauld  Place with Teddy at their side.

“Thank you for taking me to the match today. It was fun. I’m sorry about that business with the snitch. I never knew accidental magic could do that.”

“It’s no problem, Teddy-o” Harry assured him. “You’d best floo home, before your gran has kittens. It’s late.”

“Okay, Harry. It was a great day. I’ll see you both some time next week, okay?”

“Of course, Teddy. Try to stay out of trouble, okay?” Draco pleaded.

“Always do. It just has a knack for finding me, that’s all,” Teddy defended.

“Be that as it may, stay safe, okay?” Harry asked.

Teddy assured them him he would, stepping into the floo seconds later.

After the fire had died down, Draco sighed.

“Your godson is a chip off the old block, you know that, Potter?”

“So it seems. Poor Teddy,” Harry lamented.

“You aren’t so bad, you know,” Draco told him.

“Glad you think so. What would you like to do now that we’re finally alone?” Harry inquired.

Instead of an answer, Harry heard nothing but a soft snore.  Draco had fallen asleep with his head on Harry’s shoulder.

With a tender smile, Harry summoned a blanket and settled in for a nap.
