HPFandom and TheHexFiles are looking for volunteers!

HPF & THF

The fanfiction archives HPFandom and TheHexFiles are both looking for volunteers to help move fics over to Archive Of Our Own (AO3) using the Open Doors project.

[livejournal.com profile] separatrix, HPF & THF's owner, will not be able to take on this project herself due to health issues so it's up to us fans to come together and move as much as we can in only 3 months before both sites close permanently.

If you are seriously interested in helping out please drop a comment at either [livejournal.com profile] hpfdotnet or [livejournal.com profile] hex_companion and let us know.

Useful links for someone thinking about volunteering:
The Open Doors Special Collections Gallery - Archives saved with Open Doors, where the archives will end up, hopefully.
Importing Works with an Archivist Account - A tutorial of what we'll be doing.

The archives use an early version of eFiction so each chapter has a different ID number so chaptered fics will need to be imported differently than oneshots.
- How do I import a chaptered work? (Up to 100 chapters at a time.)
- How do I import multiple works in one go? (Up to 10 oneshots at a time.)

Hex Files only has about three months of funding left. I know that not everyone can donate, but the site has a special place in my heart. It was there that I tumbled head over heals in love with the H/D paring. Harry/Draco fic is one of the main things that distracts me when I'm in a low mood. If you feel inclined to donate, please do. If you donate and would like a ficlet or drabble for your trouble, I'd be happy to do that. Just leave me a comment with a prompt, and I'll write the fic as soon as possible.  If you do donate, you will have my gratitude forever. Thank you for listening to my silly fangirl ramble. Please do donate if you are so inclined. I would be heartbroken if the site had to close, especially considering how much that site has gotten my through some really difficult times and allows me a much-needed escape when things get hard to handle. Every little bit helps. Thanks again.

Excuse me while I have a panic attack. I just heard that Hex/HPFandom are closing in a month. EEK! I don't even know where to begin saving, because I have I have no idea which authors have what where, if that makes any sense to anyone. I'm fighting to keep from bawling here, literally. There are so many authors I love, and just... this is heartbreaking. I can't even tell you how many times reading fics at either archive has saved my sanity. There is no way I can save everything I'd like to. I just want to curl up somewhere and cry. But before I do that, I will ask that you please consider donating to keep the sites open. I know money is tight these days and not everyone has extra to spare, but I would be beyond thankful. Even if you don't donate yourself, please at least spread the word. If there are enough donations, there's a chance the archives might stay open, at least for a while longer. I don't even want to think about these archives closing. I plan to try and donate at least a little if I can. Anyone who does donate and would like a story or ficlet from me for their trouble, I'd be glad to write it. Just leave me a prompt or a pairing or both, and I'll get to work on it as soon as I can. Thanks!

It seems that The Hex Files and HPFandom are in need of funds again. I plan to donate if I can find the money somewhere in the next few months. The sites have really saved my sanity time and time again, and I'd hate to see them have to close due to lack of funds. Fandom is my happy spot when the rest of my world is crazy, and The Hex Files especially was and is a huge part of what helps keep me together when I otherwise might fall apart. Anyway. I really hate to beg, but if you feel so inclined, please do donate to keep the sites open. I know it's just fan fiction, but it means a lot to me, and I'm sure to many of us in fandom. I will gladly write ficlets or drabbles for anyone who donates. If you'd like a drabble, just leave a prompt for me, and I'll write you something ASAP.

Hey guys! It's that time again. If you can, please try to donate some funds over at The Hex Files/HPFandom to keep them going. I know times are lean for many of us, but the sites are great to read fic on. Many of my favorite fics, I found there, so I will try to find some money to donate. If you would do the same, it would be highly appreciated. The last time, there was enough money raised to cover two years of funding. I hope that we can do that again.  If you've donated and would like a drabble/ficlet from me, feel free to leave a comment on this post and I will write it as soon as I can. My OTP is H/D, but I have been known to write others. If you should like another pairing within the HP fandom, I will do my best to accommodate you. Thank you!

Leo Draconis has started a community to save The Hex Files. She is made of awesomeness and writes amazing slash stories. So, go check out [livejournal.com profile] save_the_hex.

P.S. Please forgive my bounciness, but this has been worrying me. I'm beyond happy to see this being done. *squees like the fangirl she is*

I know probably no one reads my entries but a few people, but if you like reading Harry Potter fiction, please donate to Hex Files or HPFandom so they won't close. I know these are lean times, but every little bit helps. These sites have quite literally saved my life, more times than I can count. No, I don't really care how pathetic that makes me, it's the truth. I love this fandom and these sites. I just wish I was rich, so I could pay all the hosting costs myself, because even the thought of them closing breaks my HP-loving heart. So, if you feel so inclined, shoot some funds their way. Anyone who does has my eternal gratitude and thanks.
