Fandom is just awesome, and I want to say thanks to everyone who left me comments on [livejournal.com profile] lokifan's Love meme. I really was not expecting that, and I'm so grateful. I honestly have no words for what it means to me. Fandom is my happy place, and it's the people as much as the stories that make that true for me. Thank you, and I wish good things for all. Go and spead some love if you haven't yet.

So many fics I want to save before the sites close, and so little time to do it in.  First things first is I guess finding out who all only has fics on Hex. I want to save things from harrys_boxers, shadowsamurai, roxierose13, Alysian Fields, and so many others. I'm despairing of ever being able to save everything though. EEk! Side note: If anyone reads this and knows where the last installment of the Escort Service by Cheryl Dyson is posted, do please tell me. I know I read it, but I can't think where. Gahh. I may give up and go to bed for now. I feel very shit-like at the moment. Hope everyone is well and safe.

Edit: Found the fic! Derr...I think I have some kind of mental block against FF.net. Eesh.

HPFandom and TheHexFiles are looking for volunteers!

HPF & THF

The fanfiction archives HPFandom and TheHexFiles are both looking for volunteers to help move fics over to Archive Of Our Own (AO3) using the Open Doors project.

[livejournal.com profile] separatrix, HPF & THF's owner, will not be able to take on this project herself due to health issues so it's up to us fans to come together and move as much as we can in only 3 months before both sites close permanently.

If you are seriously interested in helping out please drop a comment at either [livejournal.com profile] hpfdotnet or [livejournal.com profile] hex_companion and let us know.

Useful links for someone thinking about volunteering:
The Open Doors Special Collections Gallery - Archives saved with Open Doors, where the archives will end up, hopefully.
Importing Works with an Archivist Account - A tutorial of what we'll be doing.

The archives use an early version of eFiction so each chapter has a different ID number so chaptered fics will need to be imported differently than oneshots.
- How do I import a chaptered work? (Up to 100 chapters at a time.)
- How do I import multiple works in one go? (Up to 10 oneshots at a time.)

I made my way through all seven books. It's taken quite a bit longer than I'd hoped, but I did it. I've heard all kinds of things about these books in fandom, but I'm the type of girl who likes to make up my own mind about things, so I read them myself. They were very well-written pieces of work, I must say. I was gripped right from the start, especially for the first five books or so. With that said, I also have to say these books were emotionally exhausting, draining, and somewhat overwhelming. I was in the mood to read a long, plot-heavy fic, and these stories more-than-adequately met that set of criteria. Which brings me to the point of my post: I now find myself in need of light and fluffy fics. It doesn't even have to be Harry/Draco. I'll take any pairing. I may even go so far as to read some het, if you know of any good ones. Or a good threesome fic. I'll take whatever you guys rec. I just need some happy, fluffy, sweetness to counteract all the heavy I've felt glutted on recently.  I've never felt that emotionally gutted after reading a fic, but this series is in its own arena. I usually don't post fic requests in my journal, but I have done on occasion, and this is one of those times. I was hoping someone would rec some pairings or stories I haven't read as yet. Thanks in advance.

I tied for third! today was the first day I saw this, and I just love the banner art!

Sooo...I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] my_thestral. Here are the rules of the thing.

1. Find a fanwork that is different from what you normally read. This can be a new genre, pairing, kink, fandom, or even just an author you've never read anything by.

2. Enjoy and leave some comment love for the author/artist.

3. Report back in a post and challenge three other people to do the same.

I'm tagging:

[livejournal.com profile] veritas03, [livejournal.com profile] josephinestone, and [livejournal.com profile] digthewriter

Have fun with this. I promise it's not painful.

As most of you will likely know, I read. write and dream Harry/Draco when it comes to the things I read, and mostly write as well. Recently, I've started to branch out a bit in terms of what pairings I pick to write, but I had never yet read a Ron/Draco fic that was not my own creation. I am happy to report that I can no longer claim any such thing. I have read (and officially squeed over) a Ron/Draco fic. Maybe it was cheating to read something by the person who tagged me, but if so, it was well worth it, because that fic was hot enough to almost scorch my keyboard. And it had a side pairing that was quite surprising as well, so either way, it qualifies according to the rules. I'm normally not big on fics with infidelity in, but in this, it works.

Out of the Woods goes straight into my memories. Check it out if you're in the mood for something different.

I love fandom, and I'm so grateful I was nominated. And surprised. And did I mention grateful, 'cause I so am!
bleedingangel84: (rose in rain)
I was just tickled pink when I saw these, so of course I want to show mine off. Thanks to everyone who is a part of this comm. It's a wonderful one to write for.

Hey guys! I hate to ask, but I've written a fic for a fest that needs a beta before I can submit it. It's a Harry/Sirius under a thousand words. Would anyone be willing to look over it for me within the next week or so so I can go ahead and submit? I'd like to get it in early if I can so I can possibly claim another prompt.

Why is the site down? Mildly panic-stricken here. It was working all right the last time I read there, which was yesterday. So, I have no clue. Eek. Loooong day. Need chocolate. Or tea. Or both. Hope everyone is well.
bleedingangel84: (reflected moon)
I've been thinking a lot recently about the HP fandom. And I can honestly say that without it, my life would be much less bearable. I lurked around for years before I even had the courage to start reviewing stories. When I finally did leave a review, it wasn't as nerve-wracking as I had thought it would be. I've made some amazing friends as a result of my interest in fandom. I've found the confidence to even attempt writing again, thanks to their encouragement. And I've found that it really helps me when things in my "real life" start to go hinky. So . I guess what I'm attempting to say is a thank you. Thank you to everyone on my flist for the kindnesses you've shown and the encouragement given. I appreciate it beyond any words, and I wish everyone the best of days. <3

Additional thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes, v-gifts, and fics. You guys helped make my birthday wonderful, and I really appreciate it. :)

Excuse me while I have a panic attack. I just heard that Hex/HPFandom are closing in a month. EEK! I don't even know where to begin saving, because I have I have no idea which authors have what where, if that makes any sense to anyone. I'm fighting to keep from bawling here, literally. There are so many authors I love, and just... this is heartbreaking. I can't even tell you how many times reading fics at either archive has saved my sanity. There is no way I can save everything I'd like to. I just want to curl up somewhere and cry. But before I do that, I will ask that you please consider donating to keep the sites open. I know money is tight these days and not everyone has extra to spare, but I would be beyond thankful. Even if you don't donate yourself, please at least spread the word. If there are enough donations, there's a chance the archives might stay open, at least for a while longer. I don't even want to think about these archives closing. I plan to try and donate at least a little if I can. Anyone who does donate and would like a story or ficlet from me for their trouble, I'd be glad to write it. Just leave me a prompt or a pairing or both, and I'll get to work on it as soon as I can. Thanks!

I can't believe I got second place! I'm incredibly happy right now. *dances* This is definitely a "wow" sort of moment. I'm thankful to everyone who took the time to vote. This is just yet more proof that fandom rocks!

I just got one of the biggest shocks and best shocks ever in my life. It seems that my drabble  Diana has been nominated for Best Harry/Draco Drabble in the Falll-Winter 2013 Round at the HP Fanfic Fan Poll Awards. I don't know who nominated me for that, but I'm incredibly grateful and thankful they liked it that that much. This came at a time when I felt very much in need of something good to happen, and I have no words for how much it means to me. I literally cannot stop grinning right now. If you'd like to participate, voting starts on  November 1, 2013 and ends on December 31, 2013. The voting is open to the public, if you feel so inclined. I feel completely bowled over with happiness at the moment! Please excuse me while I go dance around my room. :D I hope everyone is well. Blessings and happy thoughts to all. <3

bleedingangel84: (This is true for me.)
Where has the time gone?

I've been busy lately, re-reading all the Harry Potter books, and getting lots of ideas for fics. I'm in the middle of CoS now, and I'm re-discovering exactly why it is that I fell in love with this series to begin with. It's like becoming reacquainted with an old friend I haven't seen in years, and it's proving just as fulfilling. I realize reading them that I genuinely miss these characters as JKR writes them. I utterly and completely adore fandom and the people I've met because of it, but it's nice to think that JKR gave us so many things to play with. I love fandom because that's where they can all stay alive if we want them to. It's funny how a character in a book can come to mean just as much to some as a living person.  That's what HP does for me, because I tend to spend a lot of time alone when I'm not online. Books help me feel less lonely.

They've been constant companions throughout my life. They carry no preconceived notions or judgements of me, and I very much appreciate the sense of peace and escape they provide. In a book, I can be and do anything. I'm not limited by the boundaries of so called "reality", and I value that sense of freedom, even if it's only in my ditzy little head.

Hey guys. I know a lot of us liked reading at The Silver Snitch. It went down due to lack of funding. The poor owner has been finding herself getting yelled at over the site downtime. I was reading over at the AFF forums, and they asked people to donate to reopen the site. This would be great, as it was home to some great stories, so if you have the time or inclination, donate via Paypal to this email address.
