Better Together
“Harry, love, come on. Let me take you home.”
“Fuck off, Malfoy. You don’t get to tell me when to come home. We’re not together anymore, remember? Why are you even here?”
“Granger called me. She said you’d practically been living in bars lately.”
“Why do you care, Malfoy? I’m not your problem anymore.”
“I care because it hurts to see the man I love disappearing. Harry this isn’t you and you know it.”
“If you love me so damn much, why’d you break up with me?”
“It wasn’t because I wanted to.”
“Daddy dearest finally had his way, didn’ he?”
“It doesn’t matter now.”
“Does so.”
“Gods, you turn into a sulky child when you’re drunk.”
“Not a child.”
“What’s going on? We’ve been apart for months now, but Granger said you’ve been worse than ever lately.”
“Letters from my cousin. My aunt died. They never treated me well, but losing family hurts, ya know? On top of losing us, this was one straw too much. Seems easier to forget when I’m drunk. Not so painful.”
“Oh, Harry, I’m so sorry.”
“Don’ be. Aunt Petunia never loved me. Malfoy line needs an heir, right? You were only doing the right thing droppin’ dead weight like me. “
“I—never thought of you as dead weight, Harry. You mean the world to me.”
“Some world. Ev’ry street I walk down is a boulevard of broken dreams. All that I ever loved or even tried to love gets taken from me. “
“Not everything. I miss you, Harry. I want to put us back together, if we can. Astoria Greengrass agreed to act as a surrogate for me. Will you take me back?”
“Surrogate? Does that mean you won’ marry her?”
“I don’t plan to, no. Now will you let me take you home?”
“C’mon. My bed’s been cold and lonely without you. Can’t sleep by myself.”
“You won’t have to anymore, Harry, I promise. I wish I’d never let you go. I’ve been awful without you.”
“The two of us are better together.”
“Yes, we are. Oh, and Harry? Remind me to send Hermione some roses.”
“Tomorrow. Tonight’s just for us.”
“I love you, Harry.”
