Summary: Draco and Harry share a special tradition with their daughter.
The Rowan
“Papa, is that it? Is that the tree we’re having our picnic under?”
“That’s it, sweetheart. That’s where your father first asked me to marry him.”
“Oh, that is so romantic!”
“Harry, what have you been telling our daughter?”
“Just that you proposed to me under the rowan, that’s all.”
“And a rowan is a special tree, right?”
“It’s said that it causes life and magic to flower. I thought it would be a good idea to propose here. A good omen for a happy marriage.”
“It worked. I’ve always been happy with you.”
“Your papa and I came here again when we found out you were going to be born. It was so important to us that you be a happy and healthy child. I was so relieved when you came safely.”
“We both were. You were the most perfect thing either of us had ever seen.”
Young Cissa couldn’t help a small surge of pride, even as she blushed.
“This tree is beautiful. You two have had so many things happen here. Thank you for bringing me here.”
“It felt right. It’s a family tradition, after all.”
“I can’t believe our baby is heading for Hogwarts in a few days.”
“I’m not a baby, Father!”
“No, but you’re our baby and we love you,” Harry told her.
“I love you both, too. I’ll write you every week.”
“See to it that you do.”
“Yes, Father.”
“And Cissa? No boys.”
“I’m not old enough for boys yet.”
“I met your papa during first year.”
“And we hated each other for years after that, Draco. Give Cissa some credit.”
“Thank you, Papa.”
“Don’t start ganging up on me now.”
“Well then, don’t lose yourself in some dreadful, imaginary horrific moment thinking the worst is going to happen. That is why we brought Cissa here today. The rowan will work its powers for her, too. It’s been good for all of us.”
“You’re right.”
“I know.”
“Usually, I’m the one who’s always right.”
“Being married to you for over a decade has some perks. I picked up a trick or two.”
Harry and Draco lost themselves in a kiss for one long minute until Cissa politely cleared her throat.
“Should I leave you two alone? I’ve always wanted a baby sister."
