Summary: Bill is married, but the wolf in him has other needs.

Mates

“It’s over. Fleur kicked me out.”

“What happened?”

“We were…in the middle of—and it wouldn’t…it didn’t.”

“Oh, Bill, I’m sorry.”

“Damn Greyback! This is entirely his fault! I’m not even a man anymore, Remus!”

‘You are too a man. You are strong and fine and good. Don’t let Greyback rob you of that.”

“What’s happening to me, Remus?”

“Trauma can sometimes effect performance. “

“We haven’t been able to since Greyback savaged me, but I didn’t transform at the full moon.”

“Have you felt drawn to anyone else since then?”

“Just you. You’re the only one who doesn’t make me agitated.”

“Our wolves recognize each other.”

“I just want to be a normal man, Remus. Nothing feels the same anymore.”

“You are normal. You’re still you.”

“Then why can’t I make love to my wife?”

Remus felt a territorial growl rise, unbidden, from his throat.

“Don’t think about her. She’ll never understand the instincts of a wolf the way I can. Your body is telling you that you don’t belong with her.”

“She is my wife, Remus. I should feel attracted to her, but I don’t. You came, and changed the way I feel…when you came to me after I was hurt, I felt like something had died and been reborn all at once.”

“That was your wolf asserting itself in dominance over your humanity.”

“Is that why I feel this…pull?”

“It’s the natural response of a wolf to its mate.”

“I’ve never been with a man, Remus What if I’m not meant to be with anyone?”

Remus gazed at him, looking right into his soul. His eyes were golden amber. He pulled Bill close. Bill felt awareness of the man over his whole body, and shivered. Remus’s lips were cool and soft meeting his, but Bill felt heat travel through him, pooling in his groin. The kiss seemed to last forever.

“Feel better?”

“My heart’s still a bit broken, but it’s nice to know there’s nothing wrong with my body.”

“It looks quite fine to me. “

“Thank Merlin you were here, Remus. I thought I was losing my mind.”

“I always will be.”

“I’ll need somewhere to stay.”

“My bed is open.”
