Summary: Neville gets more than he bargained for when he meets his new neighbour.

Being Neighbourly

“Malfoy?”

“Malfoy is my father. Please, call me Scorpius.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I thought I’d introduce myself, considering the fact that we’re neighbours. I just bought the cottage next door. Your climbing roses are quite lovely, sir.”

“I’m quite aware of who you are, Scorpius. I was your teacher for several years, after all. Do you still have those dragon hide boots you used to love wearing?”

“I wasn’t aware you took any notice of my footwear, sir.”

“I took notice of everything about you. How could I not knowing you have Draco Malfoy for a father? My gran always used to say your family was the reason we lived behind security wards.”

“Good fences make good neghbours. Or so I’ve heard it said. I find isolation is highly overrated. Don’t you agree, Professor Longbottom?”

“I’m not your professor anymore, Scorpius. Feel free to call me Neville.”

“Neville, then. It suits you somehow.”

“Malfoys were always good at flattery.”

“I’m more than just my last name, I’ll have you know.”

“I’m glad to hear that. It appears as though you’ve matured quite a lot since your school days.”

“That is the ideal motivation behind growing up.”

“You’ve a fair point there, young man.”

“I came to see if you’d consent to having tea with me, sir.”

“Back to sir again, is it?”

“Years of habit are a bit harder to break than I thought. And you did call me young man. I felt as though I should be preparing for a dressing down from my head of house at any moment.”

“It appears we are both on even footing in terms of awkwardness, in any case.”

“Perhaps I was a fool to even think we could be friends after all.”

“Perhaps. Or perhaps we just need to begin again with a clean slate.”

“You are every inch the teacher, aren’t you? I rather like that. There are many things I would have you teach me, if you’re willing.”

“How about we begin with having tea? I haven’t seen you since Hogwarts.”

“I’ll take what I can get.”

“What are you after, Scorpius?”

“Just being neighbourly, Neville. I wouldn’t ask for anything else. Yet.”

Oh, what a sneaky Malfoy!:-) Going straight for the throat of poor unsuspecting Neville. Perhaps he doesn't have his malice, but I doubt this one was anything but a Slytherin! Lovely, smart dialogue, girl, go on!

I'm so glad you liked this one. I had fun writing it. Scorpius is definitely a Malfoy. He saw who he wanted and went for him. Thank you so much for reading this. Seems I've developed a liking for the occasional rare pair.
