Summary: Narcissa attempts to help Draco win Ron, whether he wants him or not.

Mother Knows Best

“Mother! I’m late!”

“Draco, you can’t go to dinner and not bring a gift. It isn’t done.”

“This isn’t a social call, Mother. Weasley and I are meeting to brew a potion. That’s all.”

“Courtesy is a lady’s armour.”

“I am not a female, Mother.”

“Yes, well, that doesn’t mean that the rules of courtesy apply less to you, Draconis. You will bring a gift. You will use manners and you will not fight with Mr. Weasley. Harry Potter is his best friend. It wouldn’t hurt you to be cordial to the young man, now would it?”

“No, it might kill me. Or Weasley will. This potion takes two full calendar months to brew. I cannot tolerate the oaf for that length of time.”

“You are certainly your father’s son, my Dragon. Lucius had a flare for the dramatic as well. You will survive this.”

Draco eyed the small blue box his mother pressed on him with trepidation.

“What is that?”

“This is a gift to help the two of you communicate clearly so that you can work together.”

“We communicate well enough.”

“Severus would argue otherwise.”

“I’d be surprised if he has any breath to argue with, seeing as his tongue is always down Potter’s throat these days.”

“Jealousy is unbecoming of a Malfoy, darling. Go. You’ll be late.”

“I am not jealous of Severus! Why does no one understand that?! Weasley is a boor with overly large feet, and his hair looks like his head has been set afire.”

“He is also attractively muscled, of marriageable age, and a Pureblood. Manners can be taught.”

“Mother, honestly! He’s a Weasley. We’d fit together like ice cream and broccoli. Malfoys and Weasleys shouldn’t mix.”

“Neither should some Potions ingredients, and yet, they do."

“I’m leaving. Everyone in my life has gone mad. Have you all taken an Insanity Infusion? At least Weasley acts as he always has.”

“Keep telling yourself that, dear. Do have fun."

“It’s potions brewing with Weasley. Fun isn’t the word that comes to mind. It’s possible there will be an explosion.”

“If nothing else, Mr. Weasley keeps you entertained.”

“You may have a point, Mother. I do loathe being bored.”

Narcissa is a formidable force of nature when it comes to looking after her son's interests. I do believe Draco and Ron will find ways to keep themselves entertained. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment! I really appreciate it. :)

Oh, Draco... might as well give this rebellious business up for a bad job - if your mother thinks Weasley is a good match, you might as well go and buy yourself a wedding bouquet, going up against this woman is probably the worst idea you'll ever have - even the Dark Lord had learnt that lesson the hard way. :)
Heh, I love reading (and writing) Narcissa as a mother, there's not enough of her in the books. I think Tom Riddle didn't learn the right lesson that one time when he pissed off Lily Potter - how on earth did he think Narcissa would just stand there and watch her son fall to ruin is beyond me. :)
Momma knows best, Draco... Perhaps she figured out that male pregnancy thing and she wants some pure-blood babies... ;) I think Draco is up for quite a ride, poor oblivious blondie... :D

Poor Draco. He wouldn't be a Malfoy if he didn't rebel at least a bit, but I think Narcissa started him thinking, at least. She just insisted on being in this fic, and I couldn't say no. I think she will eventually have grandchildren at some point. She is a very determined lady. She sees what Draco wants to deny, which is his attraction to Ron. Hopefully her gift will open the boys' eyes a bit and get the plot moving. We shall see. I hope you're okay with getting more of this in the future. This is what happens when you feed plot bunnies. Anyway, thank you for reading and commenting. I agree that there is not enough Narcissa in the books. She's a fun character to play with.

Are you kidding me - I'd love more! :) I think you have the whole mini-series started here - and why the hell not! Heh, we once had 42 bunnies at home (my dad's mad idea, don't ask!), so I learned the universal truth: you feed them, they multiply, mwhahaha! :D
Anyway, I'm happy that those two are happily jumping out of your hat!:)

Holy...42?! Mind officially blown. These two just won't get out of my head, and they seem to want me to continue with this little series of fics. I didn't even plan to write this one, and this thing came out of my head, so it seems safe to say this will continue.
