Summary: Harry had his say; now it’s Severus’s turn to do the talking.

At St. Mungo’s

“Do I like olive oil on my pasta?”

“Or perhaps you’d prefer going out for coffee? A caramel macchiato?”

“Did you just ask me to go out? With you?”

“I did. I will, however, understand if you should choose to decline. I do remember what the students called me.”

“A raven-winged bat? With the way you swooped around in your billowing robes, the comparison was inevitable."

“We all had our roles to play.”

“We did. I’ll go to dinner with you. After you’re released from St. Mungo’s. You don’t look quite well.”

“I feel much better. Thank you for getting me here so quickly.”

“I couldn’t stand losing you. Not given what you’d just revealed of yourself. Severus Snape, you are the bravest man I’ve ever known.”

“I was a fool. Don’t paint me a saint when I wasn’t."

“You’re something better than a saint. You’re human. You love more deeply than anyone I have ever seen. If I spent my life learning you, I’d not find all there is to know of you. You hid so much for so long.”

“There were times when I could not. I despaired of ever being free. Now I have a chance to be. Thank you.”

“Thank you, Severus. It was your memories that helped me defeat Voldemort. You are just as much a hero as I am.”

“I’m not a hero. I’m just a man. Not a saint, nor an angel.”

“Thank Merlin for that. I prefer you as you are, flaws and all. I like that you aren’t perfect. I’d hate to think that you’d suddenly transformed into something perfect. You can’t touch perfect things without marring them, and I’ve caused you enough pain.”

“Harry, stop that. Right now. It wasn’t you who caused me pain, and I don’t want to hear that again.”

The vehemence in Severus’s silky voice caused a shiver to skitter up Harry’s spine.

“Yes, professor,” Harry breathed.

“Do you know that your eyes are glowing?”

“Severus, you should rest. I should…go. I’ll be back tomorrow.”

“Stay. Talk to me. Make me forget. Please.”

Harry bent, laying a whisper soft kiss against the older man’s slightly parted lips.

“I will.”
