Summary: Harry and Draco are both coping in their own ways.
Coping
“Those things will kill you someday, Potter.”
“I should think you’d be pleased to see the end of me, Malfoy. You always did hate me.”
“Not since the fire. Why are you out here on top of a mountain smoking?”
“I felt like it, and this is the one place I thought no one would follow me.”
“When did you start smoking?”
“Summer after fifth year. I had to do something , or I’d have gone completely mad.”
“And you couldn’t find a healthier way than that?”
“Didn’t think I deserved to. I’d got Sirius killed, and just then, I didn’t care if I died.”
“I know what it is to love your family, Potter. But I don’t think Sirius would’ve wanted you to share his fate.”
“I realise that.”
“Who would’ve known? You actually do have a brain under that messy hair of yours. You think that hat actually helps it?”
“Sod off. What are you doing here?”
“The way you went tearing off, I had to make sure you were okay. You are my partner, yes?”
“Only at work. I don’t need a nanny, Malfoy.”
“You really don’t know how to react when people care about you, do you?”
“I never had much practise at it growing up, so no, I don’t.”
The two sat in silence watching the sun set in the stormy sky. No words were spoken as Draco nicked the cigarette from between Harry’s lips and took a deep drag, blowing the smoke slowly out of his nose.
“Does that mean it’s my turn to give you the lecture?”
“Hush. You are a bad influence on me, Harry Potter.”
That made Harry smile as he reached into Draco’s pocket and fished out a silver flask of whiskey.
“Says the man who travels with his own single-malt whiskey.”
“Don’t think that means you win this argument, Scarhead.”
“I wouldn’t dare.”
“Harry? Come on. Let’s go home.”
“Feel free to leave any time.”
“Not without you. Not when you’re so maudlin. You are such a perfectionist when it comes to saving people.”
“Have you looked in the mirror?”
“Shut it. We aren’t talking about me.”
“Maybe we shouldn’t be talking at all.”
