Summary: Draco reminds Ron of the positive things about being an adult.
Adulthood
Draco nearly jumped from his seat as he heard his husband kick the door loudly on his way into the house. “I take it you had a bad day at work?”
“No, I had a bad day when Slytherin nearly beat us in the House Championship in first year. This was a bloody day from Hell was what it was!” Ron shouted.
“Keep your voice down!” Draco hissed quietly. “For Merlin’s sake, I only just got the boys to sleep!”
“Sorry,” Ron said, shooting Draco a look of half-sheepish apology. “Did they give you trouble?”
“Not too much. Scorpius has a touch of colic, and Hugo never seems to get enough to eat, but today has been good. They weren’t too much for me to handle.”
“Well, aren’t you the lucky one?” Ron said with jealousy. “If someone had told me adulthood was equal parts being broke, depressed, and taking care of my family financially, I would have opted out and tried to find a one-way ticket to Neverland.”
“I tried to talk you out of being an Auror,” Draco said smugly. “It’s not as if we need the money. The Malfoy fortune is more than ten people could spend in a lifetime.”
“I know that, but it would gall me to have to live off of your family’s money, Draco. Lucius only tolerates the fact that we’re married because I’m a pure-blood who’s best friends with the saviour of the magical world.”
“Don’t forget the fact that we were able to give him grandchildren as well. Carrying on family lines is important to him.”
“Oh yes, of course. I’m simply breeding stock because my family has the good fortune to produce multiple offspring. How could I forget?” Ron griped sarcastically.
“You know that’s not why I married you.”
“You only love me for my body, Malfoy. Admit it.”
“I will not.”
“Don’t you ever do as you’re told?”
“That’s one positive thing about being an adult, love. I don’t have to. Draco teased sexily.
“Gods, you annoy me,” Ron croaked fondly.
“Want to know the other good thing about being adults, Ronald? We can make love anytime we want.”
“Maybe it isn’t so bad.”

on 2016-08-21 08:58 pm (UTC)But still, the everyday life has a way of getting to you from time to time. Poor Ron, trying to support his family just to prove his point, with his loving husband taking care of the *harder* part of having a family (let no one tell me that taking care of the kids is not a backbreaking job!). But I bet he's the reason Ron does it and - bad day at work or not - he probably wouldn't change it for the world! :)
This made me so happy! THank you for the lovely present, darling! :D
