Pansy’s Prank
Harry Potter looked up from his desk in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, surprised to see Draco Malfoy standing there with a steaming teapot that was in the midst of reciting a poem. He bit his lip to keep from laughing, doing his best to keep his composure.
“May I help you, Mr. Malfoy?”
“Yes, Potter. This teapot won’t stop reciting poetry at me, and it’s been driving me mad! And don’t call me Mr. Malfoy, for Merlin’s sake. It reminds me of my father.”
“Fair enough. When did the teapot start reciting poetry at you?”
“It was fine Tuesday morning when Pansy was having breakfast with me, but after she left, it started doing this imitation of a bard. I waited as long as I could, but it wouldn’t stop. Help me, Potter, please. If I have to hear about rainy autumn one more time, I may just start crying, and that would be terribly undignified,” Draco wailed helplessly.
“Let me just check this over. Do you have any idea who might’ve charmed the teapot to do this?”
“Pansy springs to mind. I’ll kill her. The interfering old—"
“Why would she want to curse your teapot to recite poetry?” Harry asked, bewildered.
Draco blushed and muttered something Harry couldn’t hear.
“What was that?”
“She got tired of hearing me wonder about you and decided to take action.”
“That’s…well…that’s interesting.”
“No need to be polite about it, Potter. I know I’m pathetic. You’d never want to get to know me. You certainly didn’t when we were children.”
“You were a prat then, and you put me in mind of my cousin. We’ve both grown up since then.”
The teapot was still relentlessly reciting, growing steadily louder as it continued.
“Would you please stop this blasted teapot?! I’ve tried every silencing charm I know, and a few Dark curses besides!”
Harry aimed his wand, bellowing: “Silencio poeticas!”
A deep silence fell for several moments.
“You could press charges; teapots aren’t on the Registry of Proscribed Charmable Objects.”
“I’m willing to overlook the verbose teapot if you agree to dinner.”
“I’d be glad to go to dinner with you.”
“Gods, Pansy’s going to be insufferable.”
“May I help you, Mr. Malfoy?”
