“How in the name of Merlin did you end up with Scrofungulus, Al?”
“I don’t know, Jamie. I was hiding in Greenhouse Three from some of those Dark Order goons. Maybe I caught it from one of the plants in there or something.”
“I don’t see how, unless one of them was a neck-sucking mushroom.”
“Jamie, that’s just disgusting. Stop it. I’m ill.”
“Speaking of neck-sucking mushrooms, weren’t you supposed to have a date with Scorpius Malfoy this weekend?”
“I was. I suppose I’ll have to cancel it now.”
“Oh, what a shame. Now I won’t get to watch the two of you eat each other’s faces all night. How will I go on in the face of such disappointing news?”
“Very funny. Why do you hate Scorpius so much?”
“Do I need a reason?”
“Beyond the fact that our dads hated one another when they were in school here? Yes, you do.”
“Fine, then. How about the fact that he’s a year younger than me, but he bests me in every subject?”
“He skipped a year. You know he’s smart. That’s one of my favourite things about him. That and the fact that he doesn’t see me as a smaller version of Harry Potter. And he’s fit as well.”
Albus, don’t. He’s not that brilliant.”
“He is too! You just don’t like him because he intimidates you, that’s all.”
“That evil little snot does not intimidate me. I just hate that you’re so enamoured of him.”
“’Enamoured of him’? It sounds like you’ve been reading some of Lily’s Victorian romances, James."
“I have not!”
“It’s not the end of the world being bested n a few subjects. You know, everybody has setbacks in their life, and everybody falls short of whatever goals they might set for themselves. That's part of living and coming to terms with who you are as a person."
“You sound like you swallowed one of Aunt Hermione’s motivational texts.”
“Jamie. Would you at least try to get along with Scorpius?”
“I can’t say no to an ill person.”
“I know. Why do you think I’m asking you now?”
“Albus Severus Potter, when did you become so devious?”
“Ask Scorpius.”
