hogwarts365 Prompt # 170-“War made the state, and the state made war” ― Charles Tilly; Charlie Weasley; Metamorphose
Notes: I don’t even know where this one came from. I don’t usually do Harry/Severus things, but for some reason they took over my brain for this. Sorry if it completely sucks. I tried.
Summary: Harry and Severus are each casualties of war in their own way.
“The entire Wizarding world has changed. Everything’s different, and I don’t know whether it’s bad or good.”
“War does have a tendency to change things, Harry, but it’s not all bad. We’re here.”
“War made the state, and the state made war, and we were caught up in the middle of everything.”
“We were, but it allowed us to become better acquainted with one another. I couldn’t have made it through without you.”
“If Charlie hadn’t had the antidote to Nagini’s venom, you’d have died. Then we’d have never got to know each other better.”
“You were the one caring for me, Harry. Not Charlie Weasley.”
“I had to. After everything you’d done for me, it seemed the least I could do.”
“You owed me no obligation, Harry. I had many sins to atone for. Taking care of you was part of that debt.”
“Is it still part of a debt, or has it become more than that?”
“You know it is more than that, you foolish Gryffindor. Need I spell it out for you?”
“I didn’t suddenly metamorphose into a Hufflepuff, but it would be nice to know how you feel. That I’m not alone in…caring about you.”
“Slytherins are not known for being demonstrative in public, but I care for you as well. You more than proved yourself when you freed the world from the Dark Lord.”
“Is that the only reason? Because I killed him?”
“Not the only reason. You brought me back to life again.”
“I told you, it was Charlie. He did it, not me.”
“You misunderstand me.”
“Explain then.”
“It was you who pulled me back into myself. I would have happily gone on, but I couldn’t bear the idea that you would have had to live with the guilt you were carrying.”
“I was so awful to you. I don’t understand how you forgave me.”
“I was just as awful to you.”
“You protected me. We all had our roles to play. We were all pawns in life’s chess game.”
“It’s over now, thank Merlin."
“I’m glad you’re better, Sev.”
“So am I, Harry. But make a habit of calling me Sev, and I will hex you.”
