hogwarts365 Prompt # 180-Do opposites really attract?;Desire/Erised; Enervate or Rennervate
Notes: This picks up right where Not Going Anywhere left off, so you should probably read that first in order to understand this one best. This one is a little angstier than planned, but I really like how this came out. I hope that readers enjoy. I feel like this pairing really fits this week’s theme. Feedback, concrit, and plot ideas are all welcome. I do intend to continue this one in the future.
Summary: Draco gets a promise from Ron.

The Ultimatum
“I hope to Merlin you won’t need to. You’re insufferable enough as it is, you pointy blond git,” Ron groused affectionately.
“So that’s the thanks I get for saving your miserable hide? See if I bother next time,” Draco sniffed.
“You’ll save me again if the situation calls for it, Malfoy, and you know it. Your desire to maintain a spotless record wouldn’t let you do anything else,” Ron said smugly.
“Do you never take anything seriously? Weasley, you were almost hexed to death apprehending a nefarious Death Eater, for fuck’s sake! Stop being so flippant about it,” Draco huffed.
“Humour is how I cope with trauma, Malfoy. And anyway, I knew I could trust you to have my back.”
“You scared ten years off my life, Weasley. I thought you were dead when I found you in there,” Draco said, lips trembling.
“You were able to Enervate me. Besides, I’m too bloody stubborn to die that way. Aren’t you always telling me how thick-headed I am? This time it worked to our advantage.”
Draco let loose with a frustrated yelp, raking his finger through his blond hair in agitation. “You are unbelievable! Promise me that you won’t risk yourself that way again, or I’ll ask Shacklebolt for a transfer.”
Ron stared at him in alarm. “You wouldn’t do that, would you? We work well together. Have done since we were trainees together. Though why Kingsley paired us together with our history is still a bit of a mystery to me.”
“He said we balanced each other. Opposites attracting and all that rubbish. But don’t try to change the subject. Promise me, now, or I swear I’ll walk out of here and not look back,” Draco demanded.
“Risk is a part of the job, Malfoy. We knew that when we signed on.”
“I’m not asking you to live in a bubble, Weasley. Merely to think before you go taking unnecessary chances with your life. I know we hated one another in school, but I have no desire to attend your premature funeral. I’ve grown rather fond of you, if you must know.”
“Malfoy?”
“What?”
“I promise I won’t take any risks that aren’t necessary.”
