hogwarts365 Prompt 265-“Make it a rule never to give a child a book you would not read yourself.” ― George Bernard Shaw; Mirror, Guide
Notes: Inspired by the prompts. I hope readers enjoy this. Apologies for the lateness, but RL got in my way recently.
Summary: Harry runs into Draco in the bookshop.
“Malfoy? What are you doing here?”
“I’m picking out a book for Teddy. He has a birthday coming up. You?”
“I’m doing the same thing. But I got distracted when I came in here and saw you so engrossed in reading that book.”
“It’s a habit I suppose. Father never gave me a book without reading it himself first. Though, given his allegiances, I’m
not so sure I should use that as a guide.”
“It’s nice. He cared about what you read. His motives may have been twisted, but at least it mattered to him.”
“You’re too kind, Potter.”
“I like that you’re carrying on something your father did for you. Teddy needs a sense of family and tradition. You can help give him that in a way that I couldn’t.”
“All you need to do look in the mirror, Potter. You have your mother’s eyes in your father’s face. You carry them with you wherever you are.”
“Maybe, but it’s not the same as having grown up with them the way you grew up with your family.”
“My family was full of Dark wizards, Potter.”
“Not all of them were. My godfather wasn’t and he was a cousin of yours. And Dark doesn’t always mean evil. You and your mum saved my life during the war.”
“We were saving ourselves as much as you.”
“There’s not a thing wrong with having more than one motive for doing something.”
“You sound almost like a Slytherin.”
“I almost was.”
“Wonders never cease.”
“Are you getting the book?”
“I think I might.”
“I was going to.”
“It’s a series. You can get him the next one.”
“We could go halves.”
“Only couples do that.”
“Have you had dinner, Malfoy?”
“Not yet, but I am a bit peckish.”
“How about the Leaky?”
“Only if we can go back to mine for dessert.”
“Does that make us a couple?”
“Do you want it to?”
“Do you always answer questions with questions?”
“Only when I’m nervous.”
“I make you nervous?”
“Your eyes are like green lightning. They’re rather stunning.”
“Funny, I was thinking yours reminded me of a storm.”
“If you blokes are done flirting, I’d like to get by.”
