hogwarts365 Prompt 286- Rotation, Deny, “You musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.” ― Christopher Nolan, Inception: The Shooting Script
Notes: Just a random something inspired by the prompts that was apparently lurking in my brain.
Summary: Harry and Draco are work partners who’d like to be something more.
“Potter! Malfoy! It’s your turn in the rotation. I’m going to the Leaky to have a pint or three. I’ve been dreaming about it all week.”
“You are such a lush, Smith. It’s a wonder you can hold down a job as an Auror,” Harry said.
“You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling. Why not a keg instead of a pint?” Draco added.
“Oh, fuck off, the pair of you.”
“You really are a child, Zacharias,” Harry offered.
“Oh, yeah? Well at least I’m not walking around in denial like you two.”
“What are you on about now, Smith?”
“Oh, come on Malfoy. You and Potter like each other. Admit it.”
“Even if we did like each other, colleagues are not allowed to date. And I am not about to jeopardise my job. I know it’s only because he spoke up for me that I got the job at all.”
“You got the job on your own merit, Draco.”
Oh, don’t try to deny it, Harry. I know you used your pull with the minister to allow me into training. He told me as much.”
“Too many people around here have big mouths.”
“See? Potter likes you too, Malfoy.”
“Weren’t you supposed to be leaving, Zacharias?”
“I was, but this is much more fun.”
“Sometimes I wonder how you got sorted into Hufflepuff. There doesn’t seem to be an ounce of kindness in you. I would say you should’ve been in Slytherin, but that would be an insult to Slytherins.”
“Was that almost a compliment, Potter?”
“Don’t let it go to your head, Malfoy.”
“Oh, good lord. I’m leaving before I vomit. You two are flirting so much it’s making me ill.”
“We wouldn’t dream of stopping you, Smith.”
“Don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out,” Harry chimed in.
“Can you believe that idiot?”
“He is an idiot, but he’s also right. I do like you, and I have for a while.”
“Why did you never say anything?”
“What would be the point? Colleagues aren’t allowed to date, after all.”
“Since when have you minded bending the rules?”
“Well, there you have me.”
“No, but I’d like to.”
