hogwarts365 Prompt 290-Mistakes, Difficult, Return
Notes: Just a random something inspired by the prompts.
Summary: Harry resigns as an Auror.
Harry stood by the window, biting his lip as he watched the owl fly off into the distance. He knew it would probably be hours before the bird returned with a reply.
“Harry, come and eat some dinner. Everything will be okay, I promise.”
“What if I made a mistake, Draco? Everyone always expected me to be an Auror, myself included.”
“You said yourself you were tired of fighting. We have more money than any ten wizards put together. And besides that, you’ve saved the bloody world several times over. You don’t owe anyone anything."
“Then why do I feel so jittery and nervous?”
“You aren’t used to putting yourself first, that’s all. It’s somewhat natural that it would feel wrong, given how you were raised. But there is nothing wrong with taking time for yourself to just do what you want. I know it’s difficult for you to grasp, but it’s the truth. You deserve some peace and relaxation after all this time.”
“What if they don’t accept my resignation?”
“If they don’t accept your resignation, remind them who you are.”
“You know I hate using me name that way.”
“I know that. But you’ve given them enough.”
“You know, I never expected to live. Much less be happy.”
“And with a Malfoy, no less. I didn’t expect to find happiness after the war, either.”
“You were the only one who got everything I endured. Merlin knows the press had a field day when we got together. What do you think they’ll say now?”
“Who cares? You’re a grown man and a powerful wizard to boot.”
“I know you’re right. But inside, I still feel like a scared eleven-year-old sometimes. I want people to like me.”
“Not everyone will. But I do. I love you, your friends love you, and you are valuable whether you’re an Auror or not.”
“Keep telling me that.”
Draco looked at Harry, a gentle smile playing around his mouth.
“What?” Harry asked.
“Only you could be a hero to the whole world and still worry whether people like you or not. It’s cute.”
Harry stuck his tongue out at Draco.
“Put that away. It might give me ideas.”
