Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction created for fun and no profit has been made.
Notes: I am sorry for posting this offering so late. All I can say in apology to the mods and readers is that RL has been getting in the way of fandom things lately, but I hope that readers enjoy this offering, such as it is. I apologise for squeezing three weeks’ worth of prompts into one story. I don’t normally do that, but I hope it’s okay. If it isn’t, feel free to say so and I’ll submit separate stories for the prompts when I’m able to do so.
Summary: Hermione talks Harry into attending a charity gala.
“Harry, you said you’d come! You can’t avoid the party simply because you’re in an ill humour.”
“I’m not in an ill humour. I’d just rather not spend the evening being gawked at, thank you very much.”
“It’s for charity, Harry. The Magical Haven for War Orphans needs the revenue from the gala. You know that. It’s a very worthy cause.”
“All right, all right. Just stop with the guilt trip. I’ll go, but I don’t have to like it.”
“Draco will be there.”
“Is that supposed to mean something to me?”
“Don’t play coy, Harry. I know you like him.”
“I do not like him.”
“Try telling that to someone who doesn’t know you as well as I do.”
“You are a menace. You know that, don’t you?”
“Only because I love you and want you to be happy. What happened to that adventurous Gryffindor spirit of yours?”
“It’s hiding under my Slytherin need for self-preservation. You know I can’t dance to save my soul. Why do I have to attend this thing?”
“Because it will be good for the orphanage. They want to reinforce the living areas with more protection, but they don’t have the money for it at the moment. They built a new housing structure last year and that wiped them out financially.”
“I’d give them half the galleons in my vault if it meant I didn’t have to go to this thing. I’ll write them a cheque right now.”
“You aren’t getting out of it that easily, Harry. These social functions are vital to the continued financial well-being of the orphanage. And besides that, you’ve been much too isolated lately.”
“I’ll just embarrass myself, Hermione. I don’t want to go.”
“You won’t embarrass yourself.”
“What if I step on Draco’s feet or spill my wine or something? He’s so graceful and perfect. I’m just…Harry.”
“You really are thick sometimes. Draco likes you.”
“He does not! How do you know?”
“Pansy Parkinson is Draco’s best friend and likes to gossip. Will you come to the party now?”
“The things I do for love. I ought to at least get a kiss for this.”
“If Draco does kiss you, can I watch?”
