Summary: Draco confronts Mr. Greengrass with Astoria’s indiscretions.

“We had a contract, young Malfoy. Must I give you a reminder?”

“Is that a threat, Mr. Greengrass? Do I need to call the Aurors?”

“If you have this farce of a marriage with the young Mr. Weasley annulled and marry my daughter as you’ve agreed to do, there will be no need to.”

“I won’t be doing that, sir. And you will let me out of the contract with no argument.”

“And why should I do as you say?”

“You’ll do what I want because I could destroy Astoria’s reputation otherwise. When Ronald and I went to give her the news of our elopement, we caught her in a rather compromising position with Ronald’s sister Ginevra."

Mr. Greengrass very quickly turned from red-faced with anger to the colour of old porridge. “You lie.”

“And why should I lie? My reputation is already in tatters. I have nothing left to lose in breaking this contract. I’m willing to put my memory of the incident in a Pensieve if you will not take my word. I do understand why that would be suspect,” Draco responded coolly.

“What must I do? We cannot afford the ruin of Astoria’s reputation."

“Simply do as I’ve asked. Let me out of the contract, and don’t slander my family in your quest for retribution."

“Very well. You’ve won your freedom, young Malfoy. But what are you going to do now? Two young men cannot have children together, and you will need an heir. That is after all, one of the purposes of marriage.”

“Ronald and I will adopt if we feel the need of a child. You needn’t go hunting for chinks in my armour Mr. Greengrass. It will not work, I promise you.”

“You Malfoys always did think you knew better than everyone, but your ancestors were on the wrong side of history, and where are they now? You are lucky that we deigned to consider your father’s proposal!”

“You would do better to ask yourself where your daughter is right now, I should imagine. It seems neither one of us intended to honour the contract. Now, if you’ll excuse me, my husband is waiting at home.”
