hogwarts365 Prompt 312-Defend, Brew, Conventional
Notes: Part 10. Follows Unexpected Actions. I hope readers enjoy this. It seems to have taken on a life of its own.
Summary: Ron breaks the news of his elopement to Hermione.
“So a regular wedding was just too conventional for you, wasn’t it?”
“I’m sorry, Hermione. I didn’t mean for it to happen that way.”
“And what, you eloped with Malfoy by accident?! Without even telling me?! Ronald Bilius Weasley! I ought to kill you where you stand!”
“Please don’t,” Ron squeaked out, “I’ve had to defend myself from your angry Oppugno spell once, and I’d rather not do it again.”
“Why couldn’t you just tell me you fancied Malfoy, instead of going behind my back? That really hurts, Ron. I deserve better than that.”
“You’re right. You do deserve better. But I was scared, y’know?”
“Of what?”
“I didn’t want to hurt you. I do love you, but there was something about Draco that just…drew me in.”
“Are you sure that he hasn’t put you under some kind of spell?”
“Hermione, he had a marriage contract with Astoria. He eloped with me anyway. If I’m under a spell, he’s under the same one.”
“I can’t pretend I’m happy about this.”
“I don’t expect you to. Doing things the way we did wasn’t fair, and I’m sorry it hurt you, but I can’t regret marrying Draco.”
“I suppose that’s it then.”
“You aren’t going to brew a poison and put it in my pumpkin juice, are you?”
“No. I can’t say that I’m not hurt. The thought of losing us as a couple does make me sad, but we were friends before anything else. Maybe that’s what we always should’ve been.”
“You’re one hell of a witch, Hermione Granger."
“I know. Now go home to your husband so I can lick my wounds in peace.”
“His parents are hosting a party for us. Will you come? I think Draco was planning to invite Viktor Krum.”
“I might. Are you trying to play matchmaker?”
“I hate seeing you hurting.”
“I’ll heal in time. Go home before Malfoy thinks I’ve taken revenge.”
“Can I owl you?”
“You’d better. Assuming Draco lets you out of bed long enough.”
“Hermione!”
“What? We were friends first, and seeing you blush makes me feel better. You owe me.”
“I’m going now.”
“Tell Malfoy if he hurts you, I’ll kill him.”
