hogwarts365 Prompt 318-Cuisine, Gathering, Cardinal
Notes: Flexing my Harry/Draco muscles after several weeks of other pairs. I hope readers like this.
Summary: Draco plans a surprise meal for Harry.
“Harry! You’re home early! I was going to make you dinner!”
“Thank you for the thought, love, but I’m beyond knackered. I feel like I’ve been run over by a Hippogriff. I’d rather just sit in the back garden and watch the bird feeders. We had some red cardinals out there last week.”
“You hate my cooking, don’t you?”
“Of course not, Draco! I suppose I just never learned to appreciate all that fancy cuisine. Growing up, I was lucky to get stale bread. The food you make is almost too pretty to eat. I suppose part of me feels a little intimidated by it, like I don’t deserve it or something.”
“Well, that’s a load of absolute rubbish. You deserve every good thing in the world. I’m just sorry the muggles you stayed with left you with such terrible thoughts about yourself. I wish I could hex them for what they put you through.”
“It’s ancient history, Draco. It doesn’t matter anymore really.”
“If it really didn’t matter, you wouldn’t be afraid to let yourself have nice things, Harry. I just want to see you happy and enjoying life for once.”
“That’s what I have you for, remember?”
“You are truly a sap, Harry James Potter. But somehow, I can’t hate you for that.”
“It’s because you’re secretly just as sappy as I am.”
“Merlin forbid! I’m not a Hufflepuff!”
“Well, neither am I, Draco. What’s wrong with Hufflepuffs?”
“I was always taught that Hufflepuffs were weak and ruled over by their emotions more than common sense.”
“Seems I wasn’t the only one taught wrong ideas, was I?”
“Much as I hate to admit it, you’re right.”
“I like that you aren’t afraid to show me you love me. There’s nothing weak about that. What were you making for dinner?”
“I was going to make shepherd’s pie.”
“I didn’t think you knew how to make that.”
“I don’t just make fancy foods. I know what you like.”
“You’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?”
“Good ones, I hope.”
“The best,” Harry said, gathering Draco in his arms and kissing him.
“I’ll cook for you more often if it means you kiss me like that.”
