Written for: [community profile] hogwarts365  Prompt 325-On the go, Miserable,  "It's a bit late to say something now... I'll just live with it!"

Notes: Follow-up to Hope, because I can’t have my angst bleed into fandom too often. I hope readers enjoy this one. Apologies that this is late, but RL is once again interfering with fandom participation.

Summary: Healing comes from unexpected sources.

Harry woke to someone shaking his shoulder gently, feeling every bit of spending a miserable night in the chair by Draco’s bedside. He wiped the grit from his eyes and released a jaw-cracking yawn.

“Have you been here all night? You look exhausted.”

“I promised him I’d stay until he fell asleep, and then I fell asleep myself. I couldn’t bear to leave him alone.”

“I brought you some coffee and a muffin. You’d better eat. If I know you, you haven’t eaten since it happened.”

“You’re right, I haven’t. Thank you. You always did look after me, even when we were children.”

“Is that you complaining?”

“It’s a bit late to say something now…I’ll just live with it. I know better than to argue with Hermione Granger.”

“It’s a pity Ronald hasn’t learned the same lesson.”

“Ron doesn’t know how to communicate without arguing at least some of the time. It’s just what he grew up in. With so many siblings, he had to fight to be heard. “

“He’s always on the go with his quidditch league. I miss him. But that’s enough of my woes. Has there been any change?”

“They say magic can’t heal him. Snape came by with some experimental potions, though. He says Healers are too hampered by adherence to protocol. He seemed hopeful about the results, but I’m scared to get too excited.”

“I told you not to give up hope, Potter,” Draco croaked.

“Draco! Are you—how are you?”

“I feel remarkably better, but my throat feels like I’ve been chewing sandpaper. Can I have some water?”

“Of course. I’ll have to tell Snape his potions worked. Thank Merlin. The man can be insufferable, but he is a genius at Potions. I could start worshiping him if it means you’re alive and by my side.”

“There’s no need for that, Mister Potter. I hardly expect you to start sacrificing goats on my behalf. Though I’d not say no to a good brandy.”

“Done. If you come over to dinner at ours when Draco is released.”

“You aren’t suddenly going to be nice to me are you?”

“Merlin forbid, Professor Snape. I’d hate for the world to end.”
