In the Computer Chair

She falls asleep sitting up,
crashing into the REM cycle-
sleep so deep it's nearly-
a coma.

No awareness of time passing-
she wakes hours- or minutes-
later-
suddenly aware.

Blinking- she pulls herself
to her tasks-
wiping residual crust-
from bloodshot eyes.

Sometimes-
she wishes she could stay-
her dreams-
feel so much safer than-
the waking world.
