Summary: Draco takes that meeting with Potter.

“Potter? Pansy sent me to see you. She seems to think you’re working too hard. Judging by the blue smudges under your eyes, I’d say she’s right. You look like you’ve been run over by a hippogriff.”

“Why, thank you Malfoy. It’s lovely to see you, too. I’m working.”

“You can’t take a break?”

“No, I can’t. I have a meeting scheduled at 2. Pansy knows that. She scheduled it herself. ”

“I know. I’m your 2 o’clock.”

“What is it that you need to see me about, Malfoy?”

“I think Pansy was hoping I’d be able to sting you out of working yourself into the ground.”

“I don’t work myself into the ground. Pansy exaggerates too much.”

“My mother always said that if you talk sense to a fool, he’ll call you foolish. It’s clear that you work too hard.”

“And your way of getting me to stop is to insult me?”

“When you are actually being foolish, yes. It worked well enough for me in school.”

“We aren’t in school anymore, Malfoy. We’ve both grown up since then.”

“I should hope so. But if that’s the case, why do you still insist on playing the hero?”

“I’m not playing the hero. For fuck’s sake, I work a Ministry office job helping place war orphans and house-elves with new families. What is heroic about that?”

“Merlin, could you be any more Gryffindor if you tried?”

“Are you done wasting my time? I need to be working right now.”

“Potter. You cannot save the entire world. You need to take care of yourself.”

“Or what? And why in Merlin’s name do you care? You hated me in school.”

“As you said, we aren’t in school any longer. Call me mad, but I tend to care about the people who have bothered to save my life. Now I want to help you.”

“How? I don’t need help.”

“Yes, you do. I intend to help you relax. You are going to take me to dinner so that I can thank you properly. If I don’t, Pansy has threatened to gut me like a fish. Please say yes.”

“Curse Pansy and her wretched matchmaking. She’s worse than Hermione.”
